Enhancing Face-to-Face Community Building Using ‘Discretionary' Community Building (on Blackboard)
Using student examples from a Writing 1100 class being taught this semester, this presentation, facilitated by David Falgout, adjunct faculty, Writing, aims to make it easy to bring about an interdependent relationship between two ways of classroom community building: face-to-face and ‘discretionary’ (using online “learning management” resources like Blackboard).
While this approach was originally developed for philosophy and academic writing courses, particularly for the purposes of encouraging face-to-face students to develop their own paths of inquiry and to engage each other in that process, the aim will be to highlight how these approaches could be used in a wider variety of curricula.
This presentation is scheduled for Wednesday, November 13, 2013, from 1:30pm to 2:30pm at MP446.
